I’m often intrigued by Singapore’s shophouses and find myself wondering about the stories they hold and the people who once lived, worked and gathered within their walls. What fascinates me most is the juxtaposition of these century-old buildings against our modern skyline. Rather than being frozen in time, many have been given a new lease of life by today’s cafés, boutiques, homes and businesses. They continue to evolve while retaining the architectural details that make them so distinctive. To me, that reflects Singapore itself, a city that embraces progress without forgetting its roots. Through my watercolours, I hope to preserve these places and celebrate the stories they continue to tell.
