Original Artwork - Petain Road Shophouse, 2025

The Petain Road shophouses stand as some of the most ornate and architecturally rich in Singapore. Built in the 1930s, these homes are a stunning example of the late shophouse style, a transitional blend of East and West, where European Art Deco influences meet intricate Asian motifs.

Set in the heart of Little India, the row along Petain Road is instantly recognisable by its pastel tones, beautifully tiled façades, and elaborately carved details. Unlike many other shophouses that line the busy streets of Singapore, this stretch feels quietly preserved — a moment of calm, history, and unexpected elegance in the everyday.

Did you know it almost got demolished in the early eighties?! The front facades of three shophouses along Petain Road were dismantled without a permit, sparking public outcry and strong reactions from architects and heritage advocates. Authorities intervened in time to halt the works and prevent further damage.
