Creating Thoughtful Singapore Keepsakes Through Art
Share
Finding a Singapore gift that feels thoughtful can be surprisingly difficult.
When I first started painting Singapore, many customers encouraged me to turn my artworks into souvenirs like cups, plates, magnets and other keepsakes. I thought it was a lovely idea. I liked the thought that someone could bring a small piece of my art into their home, and that it could become part of everyday life. In a way, these objects become a means of expression and connection between people.
From the beginning, I knew I wanted to create pieces that felt timeless rather than tacky.
Over the years, I’ve taught myself new skills and much of the process has simply been rounds of experimentation and trial and error. Learning how to transform paintings into collectible objects and keepsakes that people would genuinely want to bring home.
Many souvenirs focus on landmarks or novelty, but I’ve always been more interested in creating pieces that feel personal. Something someone would want to keep, display or gift after a trip.
I also want people to feel that these pieces were created by a real person, an artist living in Singapore, and not simply mass-produced products. To me, that human connection is something only art can really offer.
In some of my works, I intentionally add my own creative interpretations and imagined details, so that the city scenes and shophouse portraits become more than documentation. They become small reimagined versions of Singapore through my eyes.
